Sidereal Clock v1.0

Home Page: www.radiosky.com/sidclockdownload.html     Radio-Sky Publishing
Version Release Date: 27/07/00
Shareware version: Freeware
Filename: sidclock.zip  Size: 1.5 MB
Details: What is a sidereal clock? Astronomy buffs (radio and the other kind) often use a special clock which is based upon "star time". If you used your normal clock and timed when a distant star passed due south of you each night, you would find that each night it passed about 4 minutes earlier. That happens because in addition to the 360 degrees the Earth rotates in 24 hours it also moves 1/365.25 of its orbit around the Sun. Thus, we swing into position to see a given point in the sky a little earlier every night.

StarStrider v2.0

Home Page: www.starstrider.com/  Markus Jönsson and Alexis Brandeker
Version Release Date:
Shareware version:
Filename: stars20b2b.zip  Size: 6.5 MB
Details: A dark and clear night can be quite an experience. Watching all these pale spots we call stars, and recalling that each of these stars are suns in themselves, makes us aware of the incredible distances between them. In fact, the stars are so distant that, until recently, we thought that they all were glued onto a giant celestial sphere. That's why the constellations always look the same, and that's why planetarium programs make you think the sky is two-dimensional. Not so any more. StarStrider will allow you to let your imprisoned mind free. With the help of StarStrider you will be able to travel to the stars and watch their alien skies. Ever seen the constellations from Sirius? With StarStrider it's possible! Go where no man's gone before. Travel to Vega and see how the Sun pales to a faint star, a star among thousands of others. Look at the Pleiades from behind! With ordinary red/blue 3D-glasses your experience will be even greater. Now you can see the variable distances to the stars - without even leaving our solar system if you don't want to! Cassiopeia looks really different when you realise that the constellation isn't just a flat W. You'll also learn to appreciate the fact that the closest stars are not always the brightest.
